Course Content


Overview

The NVQ Level 3 is the equivalent of an A-level qualification, and is designed for those who already work in the care sector with a small amount of responsibility, sometimes working without supervision. The programme is recognised internationally and sets the standard for those working in health and social care. 

Study Hours

It takes around 400 hours to complete this course which is about an hour per day over a year.

Course Duration

You have up to a year to complete this course and we have included a suggested number of study hours. This is usually ample time for learners, even with full-time jobs and other commitments. Don’t worry if you go over the year though, we can organise an extension to your course for a small fee, which also extends your tutor support.


Study Method

Throughout this course, you may be expected to complete assignments, essays, portfolios, research projects, posters, leaflets, presentations, PowerPoint presentations, video/audio recordings, work-based and practical learning sessions and observations to meet the requirements of your course. This information will be included in your study pack detailing exactly what you need to do to accomplish your goals as a student.

  


Level 3 Entry requirements

Godwill Care Ltd equal opportunities provider and a potential participant only needs to have been employed in a vocational setting relevant to the occupational standards for Health and Social Care in order for them to be able to complete the qualification successfully.
You don’t need any prior skills in the subject area to start, however, you will be required to undertake a placement or voluntary work if not already working in this industry.

 Unit 12: Support positive risk-taking for individuals
 Unit 13: Support individuals with specific communication needs
 Unit 14: Move and position individuals in accordance with their care plan
 Unit 15: Managing pain and discomfort
 Unit 16: Cleaning, decontamination and waste management
 Unit 17: Causes and spread of infection
 Unit 18: Promote nutrition and hydration in adult care settings
 Unit 19: Work Placement


LEARNING OUTCOMES


At the end of this course, successful learners will be awarded an accredited certificate in adult care.  The training courses have been designed specifically to meet the needs of learners who prefer to study from home.

On completion of the programme healthcare assistants will be able to:
  • Describe the role and responsibilities of the healthcare assistant
  • Discuss the importance of respect, attitudes, behaviour, communication, privacy and dignity when caring for patients and service users
  • Reflect upon the principles of patient confidentiality and individual patient and service users needs
  • Explore clear communication and a positive attitude within the healthcare team
  • Outline Trust policies on consent, record keeping and documentation, observation and reporting
  • Recognise the signs of abuse and describe the protocol for recording and reporting same
  • Outline the principles of safe practice in personal hygiene, eating and drinking and elimination
  • Demonstrate the principles of infection control and prevention
  • Demonstrate the principles of safe patient handling
  • Demonstrate cardiopulmonary resuscitation through simulated practice

ASSESSMENT

 Assessment

Placement and Observation
Guided study hours are 400, and you’ll be required to do a 50-70 hour work placement.

During your placement, observation by an assessor, or potentially, a higher level person of management, is required to complete your course. You can find yourself an observer, or we can send one of our tutors to come observe you. There will be an additional cost starting from £200per day for us to come and assess you. However, there will be a discounted rate based on total number of days you need to be observed or assessed. This can be discussed with your tutor to ensure it meets your personal requirements as a learner.
